New year journal prompts

Welcome to 2022.

As we enter into the new year we are given the perfect opportunity to slow down. To reflect on the year gone by. To learn from previous experiences and to think about how we would like to approach this new chapter. The new year.

Of course, you can choose to start a new chapter whenever feels right and there is absolutely no pressure to start anything new right now. I have been feeling a lot of pressure over the last few days to be a new me (whatever that means) and to change how I behave. Obviously, I want to change some things, I feel incredibly motivated to set goals and push myself hard enough to reach them. But old me isn't going anywhere, I am still the same person and you are still the same person. So it is important that you set effective and realistic goals thinking of who you are right now and what you want to achieve. Rather than what you feel you should achieve or what someone else tells you to achieve.

So whether the previous year was good, bad, wonderful, devastating, magical or dull there is a lot that can be learnt from it and a lot of growth that can come out of it if we take the time to allow it. No matter how many challenges you faced you are always growing and moving closer towards the person you are going to become.

Throughout these new years journaling prompts we will work through:

- What you learnt from the year gone by

- What you are grateful for and what helped you

- What has been holding you back that you are ready to release

- What challenged you

- Goals for 2022

And much much more!

Before we get started, I highly recommend you try either my releasing yoga class or my intention setting yoga class. They are both free on my YouTube channel and will create a beautiful atmosphere for this journaling practice.

Grab your journal/some paper, a pen and a cosy drink. Let's get journaling!

NEW YEAR JOURNAL PROMPTS

1. Describe your 2021

What is the first thing that comes to mind? Maybe it's one word, one sentence or pages and pages. Ask yourself what was the previous year like for me? and write down whatever comes to mind.

2. Three challenges that I faced in 2021 are...

What were the three biggest challenges that you faced? How did they affect your life? Make you feel? How did you get through them? Who/what helped you? What did you learn from them?

3. Three lessons that 2021 taught me...

What did you learn from the previous year? What are the three biggest takeaways? How can you implement these learnings into your life in 2022?

4. Five things/people I am grateful for...

Who/what helped you through 2021? What did they/it bring to your life? What was it that made this year special, and helped you through the hard times?

If this is a human could you go the extra mile and tell them how much they mean to you? Send them a text/card, pick up the phone or if you can give them a big hug and just say thank you!

Let 2022 be the year we all say thank you more. Be kind.

5. I am so proud of myself for achieving … in 2021!

What is it that you achieved in 2021? Maybe you faced your fears, got through a hard time, got an award or qualification, maybe you forged a good relationship with a wonderful human. Whatever it is write it down and if it's more than one thing write them all down. Fully celebrate yourself. You are amazing!

6. Three magical moments from 2021 are...

What wonderful things happened for you last year? Even though last year was still not back to normal and there is still a lot of fear and uncertainty in the year there were many magical moments that are often forgotten if we don't reflect on them.

So what brought you joy? Maybe a sunrise walk, a holiday, time with loved ones, a special hug. Write them down and allow yourself to smile, to feel grateful at what a wonderful thing it is to be alive as a human being in this world.

7. What qualities and lessons do you want to take from 2021 into 2022?

What has last year taught you? How did you grow last year? What qualities did you welcome into your life? What boundaries did you set? How can you bring all of these things into the new year with you?

8. Five goals I'd like to achieve in 2022 are:

It could be a personal, professional or relationship goal. Whatever it is write it down. Remember as I said at the start to set this goal aligned with what you want and need, not what you or someone else thinks you should want or need! And always with setting goals make sure they are achievable, measurable and relevant to you! I also recommend setting a time goal whether that is a month, six months or a year for you to achieve your goal. Then make a plan and break your goal down into steps. There will be much more on goal setting coming soon, for now, make sure to get your hands on the 'daily goal setter' from mal paper.

9. Three things I'd like to try in 2022

Write down the craziest, most daring things that come to mind. Things that you have always wanted to try but have been too scared, the things that are out of your comfort zone. Go on. Dare yourself. Let 2022 be the year that you try something that scares you!

10. My word/affirmation for 2022

What is your focus for 2022? What would you like more of?

Maybe it's joy, space, rest, freedom, kindness. Write down the thing that you want to feel in 2022. Then write down an affirmation. It can be linked to the word but it doesn't have to be. Anything that inspires you.

Mine is I AM HERE. THIS IS ME

What's yours let me know in the comments!

I hope you loved these journal prompts. I always recommend finishing a journal session with some meditation or by taking some deep breaths.

I hope 2022 brings you so much love and joy and inner growth.
